Vintage Guatemalan Weaving, Dated 1973, 38" by 36"
Peso Priced Item:
This was used for cargo. They would wrap their merchandise with this; blankets, etc and tie it closed, forming a bundle. The young man who wove this put his name and date, even though he either mispelled his own name or didn't know which was correct "Reginaldo or Reginalda". I don't know what "can" is? A town I guess? Traditional Guatemalan weaving, I purchased this myself in Todos Santos in 1988 but it could have been woven elsewhere. Since the people of Todos Santos do not speak much Spanish, I was not able to learn as much as I would have liked about this piece. I will soon be offering some of the famous Todos Santo 'collars' that are gems of traditional weaving in the area and quite unique.
The condition is somewhat As-Is, a stain here or there from use. This measures 38" by 36".
