* Semi-Antique-Turkoman-Chuval,-43""-by-28"
Peso Priced Item. This is known as a Chuval. It is the face of a storage bag made by the Turkoman tribes of N.W. Afghanistan. The weaving would have been twice this long, the flat weave back side of the bag has been removed. The top was originally folded over (as it is now) making these a very nice wall hanging. There are several tribes and weaving techniques among the Turkoman peoples. I attribute this weaving to the Tekke group, known for the tightest weave. These weavings were never meant to be used on the floor... I would judge from the excellent condition of this piece that it never was used on the floor. Most likley exported from Afghanistan in the 60's, 70's, when the world market became aware of these fabulous tribal weavings. The back of of the bag would have been left behind in Afghanistan. This one measures 43" by 28".
