Pair Antique Portuguese Carved and Turned Twin Beds,

Priced in Mexican Pesos.. These are from the Estate of the Mid Century International President of Ford Motor (Andrew Massett) .  He was stationed in Rio de Janeiro in the 50's and acquired some great Portuguese antiques during his stay.  They are classic 17th C. design, however I would say they are very good 19th C. copies.  That does not make them any less fabulous, no one does this kind of turning any longer .. During his career with Ford he had a fire in the bedroom and one post on the foot board was scorched.  It has been sanded and varnished but still retains some of the 'memories' of that fire.  They are currently set to handle a 'california twin", extra long.  Andrew was a tall man and thus, more than 50 years ago the side rails were replaced with longer ones to accomodate a longer mattress.  They are stable, but consistent with their age age the nature of delicate turnings like these, there are some repairs.  The wood is a softer wood, a form of pine or poplar not the Rosewood that the 18th C. makers would have used.
