1920's Lilihan Rug, 31" by 55 1/2", Sarouk Pattern
Peso Priced Item; This rug comes from the town of Lilihan in Iran. The design is taken from the Sarouk rugs, woven in nearby villages. The weave of Lilihan is almost identical to that of Hamadan also a neighbor. This is from the 1920's and was "painted" a deeper red in the 1930's-40's era when the buyers for the American market wanted a deeper wine red instead of the paler red that was popular in the first quarter of the 20 th C. You will see this in Sarouks a lot, not too common on Lilihans. If you turn the rug over you can see the original color of red and on front there is a patchy mix of the two reds. This measures 31" by 55 1/2" and the pile, ends and sides are in very good condition.
